YOU Can Retail
in YOUR Salon

RETAIL SALES

The first and most obvious area to expand the pet grooming shop and increase your income is retail sales. A close relationship with your clients and their pets gives you the perfect opportunity to advise customers on needed items.

Many pet owners do not realize their pet is lacking something until you point this out.  By planning well in advance, you can follow up suggestions with a sale, rather than just giving information. Without a sale, your advice will reward you with nothing but a “thank you” and an empty feeling that you’re missing out.

How do you decide which items in this vast market to carry?

1. Listen to your customers.

hey are the pet owners and they know what products they like. People enjoy talking about their pets and most would be willing to talk to you if only asked.

Let your customers know you want to supply products they prefer and you will be swamped with good ideas from which to choose.  Also, your customers will feel they have a part in your business and will be happy you care enough to make them a “part of the family”. The result: Loyal customers and repeat sales.

2. Tie in sales with your services.

ou are, for the most part, a grooming salon, so include grooming products in your retail inventory. To most people, you are the expert, and the one to come to when grooming is involved.

Most people do not know the right brush for their dog’s coat or the best shampoo. If you can supply the tools needed for home grooming care, they can be reassured of having the best possible products for their particular situation.

3.  Pay close attention to repeat problems you encounter while working.

as the collar on the last dog so thin, you were afraid it would break? It’s possible the owner didn’t know how badly it was worn. (You’d be surprised how little some people know about their own dogs) Suggest purchasing a new collar and tie-in a new lead as an additional sale.

What Should I Sell?

Some products have proven themselves time after time in specialty grooming salons. The following pet products includes those items found to be good sellers in our shop, as well as those most often requested. Selection is the key to sales, so keep an open mind about the products listed and see which ones work for you. You can choose all or several items or add on different products gradually.
